Viaje Exclusivo Tower Cigars 45th Anniversary

by GoodFellasCigars

Wrapper: Nicaraguan

Binder: Nicaraguan

Filler: Nicaraguan

Country: Nicaragua

Tower Cigars is a cigar shop out of Sacremento, CA and this year, along with the help of Viaje, created a special edition exclusivo box press to celebrate their 45th anniversary. While these have become only available in California, I was able to get my hands on one single stick recently. Obviously I was jumping for joy at the sight of another exclusive Viaje, so when I lit up this beautiful box press I was more than pleased.

Right off the bat I noticed a very nice nut on the aromatics along with a slight hint of cedar, on the first draw I noticed a nearly perfect spice as well as a slight bit of creaminess. The spice continued to develop on the long finish, there was also a slight bitterness that i have come to love when i smoke a Viaje. As the cigar developed it continuously became better and better. As i entered the second third i noticed that it became smoother and smoother with a rich tobacco, as well as earthiness flavors.  This smooth, earthy flavor profile continued throughout the finish of the cigar leaving me sad when i had to put it away. The burn on the cigar was absolutely razor sharp with out even a hint that i might need to adjust it.

If you ever have the opportunity to have one, make sure you pick one up. This stick has left me even more anxious for the Viaje event this saturday at Burn Premium Cigars. The release of the “Zombie” as well as another line that Andre is releasing that is being kept secret have caused me to be quite excited. Info about the event and how to get your hands on a new Viaje cigar in the article below:

Skull and Bones: Mother of all Bombs

by GoodFellasCigars

Wrapper: Nicaragua

Binder: Nicaragua

Filler: Nicaragua

Country: Nicaragua

The release of the Viaje Skull and Bones M.O.A.B. has arrived with an ass kickin attitude. When you pick it up it appears small and weak, but when you light this one up it becomes obvious where its name derives from. Right off the bat you pick up on an intense spice that covers your entire palate. There is a large amount of heavy smoke to create a thoroughly enjoyable experience. About a quarter of the way through you start to pick up on a note of nuttiness that stays all the way through the long finish. I began to notice an underlying sweetness along with a note of whole grain. The finish stays cool which allows you to smoke it till you burn your fingers. All in all, if you see one of these, grab it, smoke it, enjoy it and buy another. Easily the best cigar I’ve found.

Skull and Bones Weapon of Mass Destruction

by GoodFellasCigars

Wrapper: Nicaraguan

Filler: Nicaraguan

Binder: Nicaraguan

Country: Nicaragua

Size: WMD

Our story starts out with a nuclear explosion accompanied by a mushroom cloud with the aftershock setting off an avalanche coming right for you while you are skiing on expert terrain. Oh, and did I mention that you never skied before? To even survive you have to be a world class skier. Well image all that combined into a small but cigar labeled by a red skull and bones. Well short story short beginners should not take on the Viaje Skull and Bones Weapon of Mass Destruction (WMD). Just don’t do it. instead go for the San Cristobal Selección Del Sol a medium yet smooth cigar.

If you have taken the challenge to take on this insane cigar here is what to expect. This is the strongest cigar we have come across so far and we’re guessing that we will not come across another that compares for quite some time. This WMD has flavors of intense spice and tobacco with hints of black liquorish especially in the finish. The draw is good giving off a respectable amount of smoke. The ash is dark and flaky. The construction is wonderful but, a down side is the uneven burn.  The first and second third is consistent and the last third becomes slightly harsh due to the heat from the burn. Stop smoking whenever you have had enough of getting your ass kicked.

Viaje Exclusivo Shorts

by GoodFellasCigars

Wrapper: Nicaraguan

Filler: Nicaraguan

Binder: Nicaraguan

Country: Honduras

The Viaje Exclusivo Shorts are a limited production batch that is an excellent everyday short smoke that has a superb build. Right from the appearance you can see that it is pretty much vein free and has a good firm pack. The size of this cigar is about a 4 inch Lancero so it is decently small but, don’t let that turn you off because it has fantastic quality. This cigar is medium to full-bodied that’s initial draw was very easy to pull producing a decent amount of smoke. First initial flavors were rich tobacco, and a caramelized apple tone. The first third of this Viaje had the caramelized flavor drop out with a smoked wood and light pepper that tingled the tongue that came in. While going through the second third the spice became more prominent with the smoked wood still present. Also a mild sweetness of anise was in the background giving the perfect blend of flavors. For the finish it became a lot stronger with a salty spice and a bitter cocoa taste. The ash throughout this cigar was a firm white ash and the burn was basically flawless with maybe one touch up needed. The only downfall of this smoke is the price but, don’t let that deter you from an excellent everyday short smoke.
