Report on the Debut Event of the Marco V Lounge and Havana Box Pressed Robusto

by GoodFellasCigars

I arrived early to the event and smoked a cigar with my father in a cozy private poker room. Just before 7 o’clock Matt Manson of Manson Photography joined us, camera and equipment in hand. By 7 o’clock Marc, and his team had set up for the public event and started to hand out Marco V Havana Box Pressed Robustos to event participants. Everyone seemed to promptly light up their complimentary cigars and enjoy them quite thoroughly. Matt especially was enjoying his cigar and told Marc so.

My impressions of the Havana Box Pressed Robusto are that it is a smooth nutty cigar with a great draw. A full review will being coming as one sentence is definitely not a review and being that this was a social event I was not about to write notes down on all the nuances of this very enjoyable cigar.

Soon though I found I needed as did others more cigars. My father bought myself and Matt a cigar which was very kind of him, and with a cigar in hand we proceeded to walk around and meet other people attending the event. There must have been more than one hundred people present all there to experience Marco V’s first national cigar lounge and smoke the Marco V Havana Box Press Robusto.

These people to me were a snap shot of what the cigar world is all about. It is not about class warfare, saying look at how many cigars I have or don’t have. Instead the culture that surrounds the ritual of smoking a fine cigar is all about coming together. People of all walks of life are seemingly summoned to join that community and enjoy each other’s company. Marc Keiser the man behind Marco V while enjoy being Kaiser for the day said to me quite the same thing, stating that cigar smoking is not about the high or the nicotine buzz but the people. I say that just by knowing that, Marc will continue to have many successes with his business.

To further speak of success, this launch party really got going when 9 o’clock came around. At this point the private event began after everyone donated $2 toward Minnesota Special Hockey. Pop (or soda for you non-Minnesotans), and the Marco V Dom Café which was blended and created to complement the flavor profile of the Marco V Dom Cigar was already available. An addition to this, unique to the private event, everyone gravitated toward a buffet style set up which became available and included a cheese plate, eggrolls, meatballs, Newcastle Brown Ale and, other tasty treats plus a wine tasting of Marco V’s The Vintage, the first ever blend of Cigar Wine crafted to compliment the flavor profile of the Platinum Grand Reserve V. Gigante Maduro, was set up in the walk in humidor. It is safe to say that the wine was popular as several bottles were quickly drained. As people got their fill of food and beverages the main stay of cigar events, the drawing, began.

Earlier when folks were given their complimentary Marco V Havana Robusto cigar, a card with a description of the line of Marco V cigars along with two tickets each with the same number, mine being 451812, were used for a drawing after putting one’s name and phone number on the one being put into the drawing.

Several prizes were up for grabs including free Marco V cigars, and Marco V branded T-shirts among others. Many people won the prizes including Matt Manson who won four cigars. As you can imagine he was pleasantly surprised. Well, that is actually an understatement, who doesn’t want free cigars?

After the drawing, Marc told everyone to continue to enjoy themselves and so the party continued. I though needed more of those Havanas and not just for review before I departed.

Marc set up a great event at a great location, Golden Leaf in St. Paul, just down the street from the Excel Energy Center. I look forward to further Marco V events here and simply just smoking a Marco V cigar at their very own Cigar lounge.

  • I love what you said about cigar smoking being all about the people. I love cigars because of the individuality and creativity which goes into making them–and that describes the people who make them and the people who smoke them as well.
