Happy Belated Cinco de Mayo!

On this Mexican holiday that celebrates the victory over French forces by the Mexican army many of you may have been marking the occasion with shots and mixed drinks of Tequila, the unofficial party drink of Mexico and the Jersey Shore. But, have you heard of Tequila lesser know cousin Mezcal? Well, if you haven’t don’t feel bad. Mezcal is just starting to gain in popularity in the United States but, this should have happened long ago. Unlike tequila, mezcal has a wider range of noticable flavors most prominent among the different mezcals is smokiness but, is in no way confined to this favors can even be apple, mint, citrus, sweetness, vegetable, and even tobacco. With anything in the consumer world there are better products than others and this is also true with Mezcal.

Mezcals You may Like:

  • Los Nahuales (Espadin Reposado) – Flavors: chocolate, tobacco, orange, caramel, vanilla.
  • Del Maguey (Chichicapa) – Flavors: smoke, mint, citrus, earth
  • Los Amantes (Joven) – Flavors: apple, pepper, pear, smoke

Cigar Roller Brakes his own World Record

This week Jose “Cueto” Castelar that man who had the Guinness World Record for the biggest cigar ever made which was 43.38 meters topped it by almost double! He made a new one that was 81.80 meters making it the longest Cuban cigar in the world. Castelar said Cuba should have the world’s largest cigar because Cuba is known for having the world’s best tobacco harvest. He finished this masterpiece one week before Havana International Tourism Fair. This cigar had over 90 kg of tobacco in it and was rolled in the Morro Cabana fortress and across 7 rooms inside of it.

San Cristobal Selección Del Sol

by GoodFellasCigars

Wrapper: Esteli Sungrown

Binder: Nicaraguan

Filler: Nicaraguan

Country: Nicaragua

Shape: Robusto

The first thing I have to say about this cigar is it is incredibly subtle and balanced. The nutty and earthy flavors are wonderfully held together by a hint of caramelized sugar. The draw is easy and produces a nice amount of smoke. The San Cristobal Selección Del Sol is medium bodied. It is constructed well, being slightly spongy or springy and is lightly veined. The cigar had a fairly even burn that didn’t require any touchups which created a flaky light gray ash. The first third of the San Cristobal Selección Del Sol stayed constant and was very enjoyable. The second third became slightly strong and the last third was stronger yet which had a definitely more emphasized nutty caramelized flavor. It is recommend to stop smoking at the band to fully enjoy this cigar. After removing the band it became a little harsh. Over all the San Cristobal Selección Del Sol was a very enjoyable smoke that will be lit up again soon.

New Cuban Edición Limitadas 2011

by GoodFellasCigars

Cuban cigar officials have just announced the names of this year’s trio of Cuban Edición Limitadas. Cuba broke the news at the start of the world’s largest cigar festival, Festival del Habano. The first of the three new cigars is The Cohiba 1966 Edición Limitada which is meant to celebrate Cohiba’s 45th anniversary. It has a 52 ring gauge and is 6.5 inches long which resembles the Behike BHK 52 and has a shape named cañonazo. Originally Cohibas were available to the Cuban government officials for their personal use and for diplomatic gifts. The last of the two highly anticipated cigars are the Ramon Allones Allones Extra and Hoyo de Monterrey Short Hoyo Piramides.  The Ramon is 5.5 inches long and a gauge of 44 and the Hoyo had a 46 ring figurado and is 5 1/3 inches long. These cigars are poised to to be the stars of the cigar world especially the Cohiba 1966 Edición Limitada. These cigars will be released later this year around the world except of course in the Untied States. If you happen to take a trip out of the US it will be worth your while to get your hands on one of these cigars when they are released.
