Hoyo de Monterrey Reposado en Cedros

by GoodFellasCigars

Wrapper: Ecuador Sumatra

Filler: Dominican, Honduran, Nicaraguan

Binder: Connecticut

Country: Dominican Republic

The Hoyo de Monterrey Reposado en Cedros is an excellent cigar for being a somewhat bargain smoke. It has an Ecuador Sumatra wrapper, a Connecticut binder and Dominican, Nicaraguan, and Honduran fillers. The thick veins contributed to the rugged look of this medium-bodied smoke. It also had a good firm pack that didn’t inhibit the draw at all. The initial draw was creamy with a raisin sweetness and a cedar spice that complimented it without overpowering the flavor and a cedar aroma was present as well. When going through the first third the flavor experience was a subtle cedar spice with a chocolate sweetness that was milk to dark chocolate and a note of walnut that was in the background. Continuing down the second third of the cigar there was more of a nutty flavor with the cocoa sweetness subsiding but, not gone and a balance of cedar spice was pronounced. The finish was earthy with the nutty flavor becoming more prominent and the cedar spice still remained consistent and not overwhelming. The sweetness went away and there was no harshness until the very end. The ash was firm and white and as for the burn it was pretty much perfect with maybe one touch up needed. Overall the Hoyo de Monterrey Reposado en Cedros was a pleasing smoke that had a great price that did not disappoint.

Diamond Crown Maximus

by GoodFellasCigars

Wrapper: Ecuadorian El Bajo Sun Grown

Binder: Dominican Republic

Filler: Dominican Republic

Country: Dominican Republic

The Diamond Crown Maximus is a rare and often hard to find full-bodied cigar that is made by JC Newman the same makers of Brick House and Quorum. As for the Diamond Crown line itself it was released in the early 1990′s to celebrate the 100th anniversary of JC Newman cigars. This cigar took a total of three years to perfect it’s blend and comes in either 5-packs or in 20 cigars that form the letter ‘M’. The secret to the Diamond Crown Maximus is the dark El Bajo Sun Grown wrapper that encloses aged and cured Dominican tobaccos. This is a well packed cigar with a little resistance in the draw that wasn’t too bad and as for the burn it was a little jagged along the way that needed touch ups. The initial flavor of the draw had earthy tones and the first third had a bit of pepper and a hint of sweet cocoa. In entering the second third of the cigar notes of almond and coffee came into play. As for the finish the nut and cocoa went away and more coffee and earthy flavors came on with a slight spice still. This is a good rare treat for the savvy afficiendo that wants something different from the norm.

Treat Yourself!

Henry Clay H2000 Mirabelle

by GoodFellasCigars

Wrapper: Nicaragua

Binder: Dominican Republic

Filler: Dominican Republic

Country: Dominican Republic

Henry Clay’s top rated cigar H2000 Mirabelle is a silky dark-copper treat. The burn and draw are perfect even eliminating any annoying corrections. This cigar has a rich medium body with zesty nutty flavor complimented by notes of earth, leather and cherry. One minor compliant is that the H2000 Mirabelle does not have the most polished refined appearance. This cigar may not be the prettiest stogie that was ever produced but it does deliver. One final note patience does pay off with the H2000 Mirabelle, this cigar should be aged for about a year or more to bring it to its prime.

ACID 5

by GoodFellasCigars

Wrapper: Connecticut

Binder: Dominican Republic

Filler: Nicaraguan

Country: Dominican Republic

ACID 5 was released as limited line cigar to celebrate ACID”s fifth anniversary, made from Acid’s original stock of premium aged tobacco.  This aging treated the flavor very nice by making it incredible smooth and medium bodied but still packs a delicious amount of flavor. Like all acid cigars the ACID 5 is created with Drew Estate’s secret infusion process of infusing exotic oils to the leaf to create a one of a kind smoke. This process expertly crafted with the ACID 5 is apparent with its delicious sweet taste with a very slight hint of spice, a good amount of smoke and also not to be left out a velvety smooth Connecticut wrapper that completes the package. The draw is excellent, producing an abundant amount of beautiful smoke. The sweet spice flavors throughout do not waver except for the last inch and a half of the cigar where it becomes slightly harsh. Over all this is a very fine cigar that is highly recommended, especially if you like the ACID brand.
