Spring is finally here and so is our Cigar of the Month for April! This month we have chosen something from Room101 because we believe this is a cigar everyone has to try. It is called the Room101 One Shot One Kill (O.S.O.K) Filero.  Some of you may be wondering how does one come up with the name One Shot One Kill. The story behind this starts directly from who made this cigar which is of course Matt Booth along with collaboration from his friend, a southern California photographer, Edgar Hoill. His nickname is One Shot One Kill due to the fact he can produce amazing photos with one click of the camera. Edgar Hoill is most known for taking very moving photographs of Mexican border towns and slums in Cuba. He is also known for his clothing company as well called O.S.O.K. The One Shot One Kill was debuted at IPCPR 2011 in Las Vegas and was officially released this January in three different sizes that are all a Diadema/Perfecto mix. For the Cigar of the Month we chose the smallest of the three called the Filero.

The Look: The Room101 One Shot One Kill is not your typical cigar, it is not enclosed by cellophane or even a cedar sheath. It’s not enclosed by one protective cover but two! The outermost cover is basically a mini poster once undone. It has a decorative black and white skull on it that fits the tribal theme Matt Booth is always trying to portray in his cigar lines. The next layer of defense is a tissue like paper that’s twisted at the ends like a toostie roll. Once fully unwrapped we see the cigar’s shape which is a mix between a Perfecto and a Diadema. It closely resembles to an Arturo Fuente Hemingway Short Story. The band is matte black with silver along with the abraviation O.S.O.K which is a lot different than what was shown at IPCPR 2011 in Las Vegas. Also we notice on the back is a QR code that upon scanning with a devise that has a QR program or application leads to Room101′s Facebook. I love the idea of this and I could see more people in the industry begin to use this. The pack on this cigar is a little soft and it doesn’t really snap back after releasing. Maybe this will affect the burn or maybe not. There are no veins really present and overall it just has excellent construction from cap to foot.

The Start: I began to smell the foot and wrapper and they both have the same aroma of a sweet yet mild barnyard. From that alone I can tell this is going to be a nice and rich cigar. I gave the pointed cap a straight cut even though this would also go good with a v-cut. The pre-draw has a flavor of sweet tobacco and the draw itself required effort obviously due to the pointed foot. As for the initial draw it was a really rich and creamy cocoa which can also be described as a milk chocolate.

The Beginning: To start off the first section of the O.S.O.K it has a main flavor profile of a smooth pink pepper spice that combines perfectly with the milk chocolate from the initial draw. On the back burner are tones of a dry wood that makes the smoke nice and cooling on the palate. I’m really loving the profile on this cigar right now! It’s just an overall rich smoke that has alot of flavor packed into each puff. The ash is a peppered mix color that is nice and firm. As for the burn it’s wavy to begin with but, after it moved past the foot it evens out a lot; only now it has a very small wave. The draw still requires some effort but after you move past the foot farther into the first third it opens up quite a bit more. Also when getting past the foot a flavor of a rich wheat begins to appear that makes a nice full smoke. I’m loving this smoke!

The Middle: As I move into the second third the flavors and smoke just kept becoming more and more creamy. It’s wonderful! I also picked up a small hint of anise and some sort of milk, like an eggnog, but not quite. Can’t seem to put my finger on it though. Maybe a RumChata? The profile for the most part is still keeping what is was before with the milk chocolate, pink pepper, and the smokey wood along with the hints of other flavors here and there. These flavors start to become alot richer after moving past the halfway point when the cigar begins to narrow again. The burn here is almost nearly perfect and the draw keeps becoming easier as more time passes. The ash was still remaining firm and was now transitioning to all white with a little bit of grey. At this point in the O.S.O.K the smoke is very smooth and creamy which makes the palate water like a good dessert!

The End: It’s sad to say that this cigar is coming to an end because now I am into the last third of the Room101 One Shot One Kill. I just didn’t want it to end. The profile is still remaining consistent and rich all the way. One of the only things that changed in this part of the cigar is that a toasted almond came into play which further complimented the overall flavor profile. This baby, I smoked all the way to the nub. It was that creamy and smooth. The finish consisted of a mild spice along with a creamy and smokey wood.

Final Thoughts: All in all this cigar took me about an hour and 15 minutes and it was simply amazing being packed with so much creamy flavor it felt like I just had a meal. My biggest suggestion with this stick is to just have a water to truly enjoy all the flavors. I have also smoked the larger size which is called the Trucha. That one took me about two to two and half hours. It’s flavor was still the same as this little guy but if your looking for a longer smoke of the One Shot One Kill I suggest that but if your looking for a lot more flavor then stick with the Filero. I just can’t keep stating how much I enjoy this stick. Matt Booth along with Edgar Hoill did it on this one, from the cigar to the way it was presented, all of it was just spot on. If you haven’t really heard of Room101 I suggest you check out their other sticks too because Matt is doing a great job these days on the lines he has been releasing from the Room101 Connecticut 615c to the Room101 LTD Namakubi Papi Chulo. Happy smoking people and don’t over look this one, go out and give it a try!

Back here again to bring you, our readers, another one of our Hot Picks. This time we have chosen the Room101 LTD Namakubi Papi Chulo. The Namakubi line is fairly new to Room101 collection and probably won’t be here for long due to them being a limited batch. Total production on this line is 100,000 cigars which consists of; Papi Chulo 42×4 (MSRP: $6.00): 400 boxes (50ct cabinetta style), Roxxo 48×4 (MSRP: $7.00): 1000 boxes, Tiburon 44×6 (MSRP: $8.00): 1000 boxes, Sucio 48×7 ($9.00): 1000 boxes, and Monstro 60×5 ($10.00): 1000 boxes with price growing by the size you get.

Along with the new line comes a story about the name “Namakubi” which goes like this as told by Room101  Cigars:

“Although in many ways long gone, Samurai culture is believed to live on in spirit within certain groups. In ancient times when two Samurai clans would gather for competition there was a great deal at stake. Normally, the losing party would die as a result of wounds sustained in battle or be executed upon defeat. The Namakubi, or freshly severed head of the losing party would be prepared on a wooden tray then tagged in a regimented manner and presented to the leader of the winning clan as a gift.

We, as modern day samurai, present to you our own Namakubi. These twenty limited edition cigars have been tagged (banded), and carefully prepared for your enjoyment. The blend is comprised of a beautiful Habano wrapper, complimented by a proprietary “Generoso” (Honduras) seed binder, Dominican and Honduran “Vuelta Abajo” fillers. The strength of this new limited is Medium to Full in body for a powerful, yet pleasant smoking experience.”

This story pretty much sums up how bad ass and excellent this cigar really is! Starting from the band which has red artistic lettering that has that blood look with black background which in my mind looks powerful hence going with the story. The light, brown wrapper is smooth with minimal veins that contains a oily finish which glistens in the light. The pack on this cigar is pretty firm with a little bit of give that pops back after releasing. The cap also on this stick is just right, with the wrapper smelling like a rich dark wood.

As for the pre-light draw I noticed noticed a woody earth mix that had a mild spice and then a sweetness right after that. The initial flavors off the first light were a floral sweetness followed by a cedar spice. There was a decent amount of smoke which had a warm sweet musk to it that stay pretty constant throughout the session.

The first third kept the initial flavors pretty much still having the great sweetness of floral along with the spice which was from the woody earth mix that was nice a rich. The combination of all of this just made an excellent starting off profile. The ash was a nice white with some grey peppered in it. The burn was doing good almost nice and sharp. Just before going into the second third the floral was the main presence here with the woody, earth spice playing second stage.

The second third I can start to feel it ramp up in strength more. The profile has pretty much the same flavors as before with the earth taking a more leather based tone and a espresso being there that would be considered a little darker, a cocoa type espresso which is going perfectly with the floral and spice mix. The ash is a tad flaky but, nothing to bothersome and the ash still staying pretty good with no touch ups needed.

Last third becomes more full bodied compared to the medium nature of the first two thirds of this stick. The spice of the wood is what really gets you here but, it’s not anything that makes you want to stop because you still have the coffee blend present along with a finish of a tiny bit floral citrus. So the roles kind of flip flop at this point which is great about this cigar takes you on a journey. As for the draw on this whole stick its nice and smooth which compliments it even more. Then the finish is a warm spice with a faint sweetness of floral citrus following.

Overall the Namakubi is a hit in our book! After having the Room101 Connecticut 615c it just made us want to try the Namakubi. Room101 these days is coming out with damn good cigars which I suggest you all give a try but, get these limited sticks before they are gone you won’t regret it! Hopefully they make one of these a standard line one day so everyone can enjoy.

Room101 Connecticut 615c

by GoodFellasCigars

Wrapper: Connecticut (Ecuador)
Binder: Corojo (Honduras)
Filler: Honduras & Dominican Republic
Shape: Churchill
Size: 615
Country: Honduras
Total production: 200,000 cigars

Matt Booth, founder of the Room101 lifestyle brand called this addition to the Room101 core line “Connecticut with a kick!”. And it is! Anyone looking for an amazing blend featuring a ton pepper and spice must get their hands on this line.

The pre-light draw tasted sweet, sugary, and like cedar and so was the aroma of the foot and wrapper most likely due to the Connecticut wrapper.

The initial draw had flavors of sweet creamy tobacco and a strong crack pepper with an after shock finish that tingled tongue yet is remarkably smooth and had  a very light hint of caramelized sugar spice mixture. The first third was medium to full bodied and featured lots of crack pepper with a bite, along with leather, spice, cedar, and very light hint of caramelized sugar. the draw smooth and only required a little effort. The burn started to become slightly jagged but a possible correction was not needed. This was a very good start the Room101 615 Connecticut especially the great flavors bursting forth from it.

In the second third  the crack pepper component mellowed, with a nice mix of light spice and caramelized sugar was still prominent and an interesting citrus type sweetness, almondy nut flavor began to develop. The burn evened out in second third. The ash a black-gray with a loose flakiness held strong for a good two inches or more. Even though the crack pepper wasn’t there to dish out a little one-two punch the flavors really balanced quit well.

The final third mellowed even more and the cigar transitioned into a solid medium body with only a slight crack pepper kick.  This, combined with a nut, cedar, dry earth spice, mix and underlying sweetness can only be described as a tongue trip!

The Room101 Connecticut was just an overall wonderful cigar. Velvety soft to the touch , slight veins, good construction, and most important of all a balanced complex spiced Connecticut blend that won’t quit. Don’t wait to try this cigar for you will every moment spend that you could have enjoyed this fine cigar.

Room101 by Camacho Cigars – 305

by GoodFellasCigars

Wrapper: Semilla 101 (Honduras)

Binder: Hoduras

Filler: Honduras, Dominican Republic

Size: Robusto

Room101 stands for self-expression and individualism in everything they do; from the art work to even the unique wrapper. The Room101 wrapper Semmilla 101 is an exclusive seed to the brand grown only in Honduras by the Eiroa family and has brought remarkable results. This wrapper is the secret to Room101. The look of the 305 had a somewhat dark brown wrapper and was noticeably veins. This cigar had cedar, raisin, and cocoa flavors with leather and earth tones and notes of pepper and finally a great charcoal finish. The construction was wonderful and gave a good draw, a speckled gray ash, and a fairly even burn. The level of body was medium through and through. The first third was consistent with the flavors stated. The second third brought on a strengthening of the leather flavor but still kept its medium body. The final became spicier with the earth and pepper tones becoming more prominent. Over all the Room101 305 was a very pleasant medium bodied smoke.
