Arturo Fuente Flor Fina 8-5-8 Claro

by GoodFellasCigars

Wrapper: Candela

Binder: Dominican

Filler: Dominican

Shape: Toro

Size: 6×47, 8-5-8

Country: Dominican Republic

If your looking for something a little different and cheaper than your normal smoke look no further. The Arturo Fuente Flor Fina has a unique green wrapper otherwise known as a candela wrapper. This is also a great smoke for someone that is kind of inexperienced because it is a very mild smoke with a very mild body too. The candela wrappers used to be more common in the cigar world but, these days they have taken more of a backseat. Don’t let that deter you from trying one of these because candela cigars bring a lot of different flavors to the playing field that one may have not experienced before. This cigar is triple capped with very good, firm construction. The pre-light flavors are of tobacco and a cool earth which gives a smooth draw aswell. The initial draw is smooth and creamy with a sweetness that is balanced with notes of floral. The first third has a greater strength of floral notes but, nothing that is overwhelming and creamy thick smoke that still remains. This cigar is also one of those you can set down for a while and pick back up and use very little puffs to get it going once again. Traveling through the second third I was able to pin down the sweetness which was a butterscotch. The second third brought in more flavors which were a light cedar and a crispy wheat. The burn line throughout all of this has remained even with no touch ups needed. As for the final third and the remainder of the finish the subtle floral notes in this cigar take center stage but, once again not in an overwhelming  sense. The Flor Fina didn’t disappoint at all. It’s a great stick for the one that enjoys a very mild smoke or one that wants to experience something a little different from the norm.

Viaje Exclusivo Tower Cigars 45th Anniversary

by GoodFellasCigars

Wrapper: Nicaraguan

Binder: Nicaraguan

Filler: Nicaraguan

Country: Nicaragua

Tower Cigars is a cigar shop out of Sacremento, CA and this year, along with the help of Viaje, created a special edition exclusivo box press to celebrate their 45th anniversary. While these have become only available in California, I was able to get my hands on one single stick recently. Obviously I was jumping for joy at the sight of another exclusive Viaje, so when I lit up this beautiful box press I was more than pleased.

Right off the bat I noticed a very nice nut on the aromatics along with a slight hint of cedar, on the first draw I noticed a nearly perfect spice as well as a slight bit of creaminess. The spice continued to develop on the long finish, there was also a slight bitterness that i have come to love when i smoke a Viaje. As the cigar developed it continuously became better and better. As i entered the second third i noticed that it became smoother and smoother with a rich tobacco, as well as earthiness flavors.  This smooth, earthy flavor profile continued throughout the finish of the cigar leaving me sad when i had to put it away. The burn on the cigar was absolutely razor sharp with out even a hint that i might need to adjust it.

If you ever have the opportunity to have one, make sure you pick one up. This stick has left me even more anxious for the Viaje event this saturday at Burn Premium Cigars. The release of the “Zombie” as well as another line that Andre is releasing that is being kept secret have caused me to be quite excited. Info about the event and how to get your hands on a new Viaje cigar in the article below:

Cain Daytona

by GoodFellasCigars

Wrapper: Nicaraguan Habano

Filler: Nicaraguan Jalapa Valley Ligero

Binder: Nicaraguan Ligero

Country: Nicaragua

To start off I would like to say throw out any thoughts you have on what a Cain taste like because this cigar right here, Cain Daytona, is completely different from what a Cain’s norm is. This cigar had a firm pack that consists of an all Nicaraguan blend and it had very little veins on it. Beginning the initial draw which only took a little amount of effort that produced not too much smoke, flavors of nuts, and a creamy, sweet, rich tobacco were very present. It was a very smooth smoke that was very enjoyable to the palate. The first third had an amazing blend of sweet and spice that was rich with flavor. It was a smooth, and musky smoke with the notes of nuts. There was red pepper present with a sweetness kind of like wood thats been in a barrel and coffee sweetness comparative to a mocha. The second third the nut flavor really pops with the sweet and spice making an awesome combination. As for the finish it never became harsh but, the sweetness went down only slightly being there with more of the nutty, and an earthy wood being most present. Overall this medium-bodied smoke had an even burn that needed touch ups near the end and could be set down for a while without it going out. Also the ash was a grey/white which was firm. The Cain Daytona is a must have cigar! It was consistent and an excellent cigar that didn’t go back near the end. The Cain brand tried something completely different from the norm and it was extremely enjoyable!

Tatuaje Havana VI

by GoodFellasCigars

Wrapper: Nicaraguan

Binder: Nicaraguan

Filler: Nicaraguan

Country: Nicaragua

Created by Pete Johnson and Pepin Garcia, the Havana is a much smoother blend of spicies than the original Havana. Overall a firm, veiny cigar with a medium brown wrapper. It has a very slow draw with spicy flavors with a hint of pepper. Despite being firm and a slow draw, this cigar fills the room with the scent of a peppery spice and gives off a great deal of smoke. The first third of this smoke had notes of rich tobacco with some wood tones. Getting about halfway through the cigar, the spiciness came in more along with an earthy tone with a little bit of sweetness trying to come in. The ash was firm and white and started to fall when it gets about an inch long. This cigar does however, require a little but more effort to draw and needed touch ups along the way. Most of the time this is enough to ruin a cigar, but the flavors that the last third gives off is well worth the work that it takes to maintain this cigar. The last third really brings out the flavors. The flavors a spicy almond along with hints of a caramel and gingerbread were present. This overall was a great cigar from the Tatuaje we know and love with the only downfall being touch ups need along the way.
