New Viaje Samurai Rumors are True

by GoodFellasCigars

I was in Burn Premium Cigar Specialists in Burnsville MN and happened to over hear some very exciting news about Viaje. A new batch of Viaje Samurais are in the making and will be coming to BURN!

The first time the Viaje Samurai was released was in 2010 specially made for BURN. In 2010 Viaje let two cigar retailers design their own cigar, BURN being one of them and the other being New Havana Cigars. Both were able to choose one of two of the main stays of Viaje, the Oro or Plantino, and were able to choose their own size among other factors that made those cigars unique.

Carlos Toraño Exodus 1959 50 Years Box Press

by GoodFellasCigars

Wrapper: Brazilian Arapiraca Sun-Grown

Binder: Honduran

Filler: Esteli & Pueblo Nuevo, Nicaraguan

Size: 5 x 55

Shape: Box Press

Country: Nicaragua

Made by: Scandinavian Tobacco Group, Estelí

The Carlos Toraño Exodus 1959 50 Years Box Press is meant commemorate the 50 years since the exodus that was caused by Cuba’s Communist Revolution. Among those in the exodus was Carlos Toraño, who fled the country to begin a new life in the free world. This cigar was also rated a 93 and was number 12 of 25 of the year.  It starts off with a beautiful Brazilian Arapiraca Sun-Grown wrapper which is known for its tendencies to explode with a perfect spiciness which pairs perfectly with the sweetness of Nicaraguan fillers. This being said, the initial light produces a large amount of spice along with an undertone of a dark chocolate. There was also a slight hint of cinnamon, yes I did say cinnamon; this threw me off solely because I have had dreams of having a cigar with hints of cinnamon, so now I couldn’t wait to smoke this stick. The draw was perfect with just the right amount of smoke along with the production of a good amount of smoke. I began to pick up on notes of a slight cocoa flavor once I got into the second third. This cigar was becoming sweet while the spice from the wrapper remained making this cigar very complex. As I got into the final third of this smoke the spice picked up a little bit while the sweetness was still just as prominent. The flavors traveled all around the palate and made this a very satisfying cigar. The next time you are looking for a cigar, make sure to grab one of these and give it a try. The cigar was a very easy smoke, and it burnt like any cigar connoisseur could want. Not once did I have to touch up this cigar, the burn remained razor tight, the draw was perfect, and there was a nice amount of smoke output throughout the entire smoke.

Rocky Patel Connecticut Churchill

by GoodFellasCigars

Wrapper: Connecticut

Binder: Honduran

Filler: Honduran

Shape: Churchill

Size: 7 x 48

Country: Honduras

Looking for something thats affordable but, compares to a slightly mid range pricey stick? Well, the mild Rocky Patel Connecticut might be the cigar for you. This cigar is firm to the touch and the pre-light draw is very smooth and a tad airy. The wrapper had a small amount of light veins upon it and had a great make-up that made for a great look on the cigar. Pre-light flavor was a smooth cedar with very mild tobacco. The initial draw had a great amount of smoke that gave a nice aroma of light tobacco and I got flavors of almond and a toasty flavor like ground up coffee beans. The first third had the initial light flavors along with a mild earth tone and just before transfering into the second third the smoke becomes more creamy and voluminous in the amount given off. The second third the cedar and earth almost completely vanished but, the warm, toasty flavor was still there with a mild tobacco flavor. A slight pepper peaked in a went away and as for the burn it was flawless with no touch ups needed. The last third and finish remained the same as before with the nuttiness coming back a bit and I saw stop just under the 1/4th mark unless you like a harsh taste in your smoke. The ash throughout the smoke was firm and could remain up to an inch without falling off. Overall this cigar is for someone looking for a decently cheap stick with mild in flavor and complexity. Also one that enjoys a nice, simple Connecticut wrapper smoke that is a everyday stick I consider.

Arturo Fuente Flor Fina 8-5-8 Claro

by GoodFellasCigars

Wrapper: Candela

Binder: Dominican

Filler: Dominican

Shape: Toro

Size: 6×47, 8-5-8

Country: Dominican Republic

If your looking for something a little different and cheaper than your normal smoke look no further. The Arturo Fuente Flor Fina has a unique green wrapper otherwise known as a candela wrapper. This is also a great smoke for someone that is kind of inexperienced because it is a very mild smoke with a very mild body too. The candela wrappers used to be more common in the cigar world but, these days they have taken more of a backseat. Don’t let that deter you from trying one of these because candela cigars bring a lot of different flavors to the playing field that one may have not experienced before. This cigar is triple capped with very good, firm construction. The pre-light flavors are of tobacco and a cool earth which gives a smooth draw aswell. The initial draw is smooth and creamy with a sweetness that is balanced with notes of floral. The first third has a greater strength of floral notes but, nothing that is overwhelming and creamy thick smoke that still remains. This cigar is also one of those you can set down for a while and pick back up and use very little puffs to get it going once again. Traveling through the second third I was able to pin down the sweetness which was a butterscotch. The second third brought in more flavors which were a light cedar and a crispy wheat. The burn line throughout all of this has remained even with no touch ups needed. As for the final third and the remainder of the finish the subtle floral notes in this cigar take center stage but, once again not in an overwhelming  sense. The Flor Fina didn’t disappoint at all. It’s a great stick for the one that enjoys a very mild smoke or one that wants to experience something a little different from the norm.
